Beginner's Luck

"I cannot do it because I am scared of failure. If more experienced people have failed trying what I am trying to do, then what chances do I have for success?"

We will imagine a hypothetical situation. There is a chess match between a novice and an expert. The beginner chess player that is competing with an experienced player probabilistically has very slight chance of victory. However, chess is a game where the moves are made in the mind of the players much before the actual pieces are moved. The beginner player will certainly not think moves that much ahead as the experienced player would. And also since he already knows that the odds are stacked against him, he won’t have much of a performance pressure. So he can freely play and try a variety of moves not stressing over the consequences or over what the experienced player would be thinking.

Whereas on the other hand, the experienced player would certainly feel pressurised due to expectations from him. Further, since the beginner player will be moving his pieces randomly without much thought, the experienced player might fail to accurately predict his opponent's moves.

So, can the beginner player win this game ? If he wins, it will not be because of his skill (which are non-existent anyway) but due to the unique circumstances arising simply because of him being a beginner.

So, if you are a beginner in anything, simply start doing things even if knowing that the odds are initially stacked against you. If you give priority to action over thoughts, then in the end, you just might win.
