Below are, my personal top favorite metal albums (in no particular order) that you should give a listen to.
Sacrament by Lamb of God
Particularly because it has my most listened to LOG tracks, namely Redneck and Walk with me in hell. This album takes a more melodic route compared to LOG's previous works. You can hear even Randy do melodic backup vocals on Redneck. Plus I've never heard a more charged guitar solo on any metal song as on WWMIH.
2. The Satanist by Behemoth
My black/death metal phase started with this album. And after this, I went down the rabbit hole to discover the unending pit of black metal genre. The production quality on this album is so good and unlike what usually is on black metal albums. The guitars have such a punchy mid range and the drum/bass section is so well polished.
Nergal and the members have given each second of each song a lot of time and effort, and it shows. I think this album is well loved by both hardcore Behemoth fans as well as general metal lovers too.
3. Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold
The title track on this album just hits different, and it hits hard. You can feel both the melancholy and the energy of the members, specially as this was the last material they worked on with 'The Rev'. This used to be on my running playlist, sometimes on loop for more than an hour. I discovered Mike Portnoy's and The Rev's genius after this album only.
Also another favorite of mine is the 11 minute long Save Me.
4. Symbolic by Death
One of those rare metal albums where each track is a masterpiece. Chuck Schuldiner, godfather of death metal, is called rightly so. And to match him, was another metal god, Gene 'The Machine' Hoglan on drums. Crystal Mountain, Without judgement, Zero Tolerance all hit differently. And the following lines from Crystal Mountain always keep ringing in my head:
5. The number of the beast by Iron Maiden
I still remember the first time I heard the title track on Radio (very, very rare, living in a country like India). I was still a kid in school. I wasn't into western songs then but still something about this song got stuck in my head. Maybe it was the drums or the spoken words in the intro. Years later, I (re)discovered the complete album and tracks like Hallowed be thy name, TNOTB and The prisoner became one of my all time favorite rock/metal tracks. Iron Maiden were very unique, for their time and for the present times. There will never be anyone like them. Iron Maiden are an institution.
